MISSION STATEMENT

“The purpose for which the Hinds Academy Foundation is organized is to provide financial support for the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, Texas. These funds are used for support of faculty, residents, and fellows for teaching, research, and patient care. The ultimate goal is to promote the practice of oral and maxillofacial surgery in the interest of public service”​

WHAT IS THE SPECIALTY OF ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY?

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is a specialty of dentistry responsible for the treatment of diseases, deformities and esthetics issues involving the mouth and surrounding structures of the face. The education and training of an oral and maxillofacial surgeon begins upon graduation from dental school and continues through either a four or six year hospital-based residency program, the latter track providing a medical degree.

The Board of Directors annually reviews grant requests from the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department and provides funds based upon priorities of the Department. Only interest from the Endowment funds is distributed. Neither the University nor the State of Texas has control over the allocation of funds to the Department. Funds are invested and managed by a third-party fiduciary and overseen by the Board of Directors.
